During speaking, bilinguals effortlessly change from one language to another; during reading they can easily retrieve the language to which a word belongs. This chapter (of which an English version exists as well) discusses the nature of such language membership information and its temporal availability during word retrieval in comprehension and production. Some relevant empirical evidence and the representation of language information in current models of word retrieval are discussed
