Organizations differ in their ability to achieve consistency in norms and values, policies and routines onthe one hand and employee behavior and attitudes on the other. Although inconsistency in organizationalconditions negatively affects employee behavior, not much is known about the processes mediating be-tween conditions and behavior. In this paper I develop the concepts of deutero-learning and double bind toaccount for these mediating processes and develop hypotheses for organizational theory and research.
