Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most successful operations performed in orthopaedic surgery. For this thesis, about THA within fragile patients, only data from the Dutch Arthroplasty Register (LROI) were used.
Initially, THA was mainly performed in patients between 65 and 80 years who were in a good medical condition. Recently, more patients over 80 years were treated. This thesis shows good results in this patient group. The second part of this thesis is focused on hip dislocation, one of the most common reasons for revision surgery. For this research results of the dual mobility cup were investigated. In this design, the head of the hip consists of an outer cup with a smaller articulating head inside. The studies of this thesis have shown that this special head functions just as well as the regular head, especially in revision surgeries.
