In Pieters' experiment addition problems were used in order to show some (predicted) relations between subjects characteristics (instruction) and task characteristics (item difficulty) at the one hand and the parameters of the Poisson Erlang model at the other hand. Here follows a literal description of the rationale leading to the experimental hypotheses and the experiment itself.
