Database of the slave registers of Curaçao from 1839 to 1863 and the emancipation registers of Curaçao from 1863 for the city of Willemstad and the 3rd district of Curaçao. The dataset contains 25,709 individual records. The slave registers of Curaçao were kept uptodate continuously from 1839 until the abolition of slavery in the Dutch colonies on the 1st of July 1863. The emancipation register was a registration of everyone who was freed in 1863 and mentions the surnames people received when slavery was abolished. This database contains information on appr. 13,000 enslaved persons and 1,800 slave owners in the island of Curaçao.
