To determine how native Dutch & Flemish-speaking Belgians view the socioeconomic gap between immigrants & themselves, interview data were obtained in 1990/91 in the Netherlands (N = 1,185, ages 18-70) & mail questionnaire data in 1991 in Belgium (N = 444, ages 20-77). Analysis revealed four major belief types: (1) traditional supremacists; (2) traditional individualists; (3) modern structuralists; & (4) pluralists, combining elements of both traditionalism & modernism. The Flemish were in general more traditionalist than the Dutch. The most predictive variables are identified as nationality, age, education, & social class.
