Search for charged Higgs bosons decaying via H± → τ±ντ in the τ+jets and τ+lepton final states with 36 fb−1 of pp collision data recorded at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

This data presents the result of a search for charged Higgs bosons decaying via H±→τ±ντ in 36 fb−1 of pp collision data recorded at s√=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS experiment. No evidence of a charged Higgs boson is found. For the mass range of mH± = 90-2000 GeV, upper limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the production cross-section of the charged Higgs boson times the branching fraction B(H±→τ±ντ) in a range of 4.2-0.0025 pb. In the mass range 90-160 GeV, assuming the Standard Model cross-section for tt¯ production, this corresponds to upper limits between 0.25% and 0.031% for the branching fraction B(t→bH±)×B(H±→τ±ντ). The τ+jets channel fiducial region is defined as: - At least one hadronic tau decay (τhad−vis) - Choose τhad−vis with highest pT satisfying Medium ID cut - pT(τhad−vis) > 40 GeV, |η(τhad−vis)| < 1.37 or 1.52 < |η(τhad−vis)| < 2.3 - No electrons or muons - At least three jets with pT > 25 GeV, of which at least one is b-tagged - EmissT > 150 GeV - mT(τhad−vis, EmissT) > 50 GeV The τ+lepton channel fiducial region is defined as: - At least one hadronic tau decay (τhad−vis) - Choose τhad−vis with highest pT satisfying Medium ID cut - pT(τhad−vis) > 30 GeV, |η(τhad−vis)| < 1.37 or 1.52 < |η(τhad−vis)| < 2.3 - Exactly one light lepton (electron or muon) satisfying Tight ID cut - pT(e) > 30 GeV, |η(e)| < 1.37 or 1.52 < |η(e)| < 2.47 - pT(μ) > 30 GeV, |η(μ)| < 2.5 - At least one is b-tagged with pT > 25 GeV - EmissT > 50 GeV
