The work describes experiments in which different aspects of calcium phosphate ceramic coatings on polymeric substrates, used for biomedical applications, are dealt with. The main focus of research is the adhesion of the coatings on several polymers. The interfacial chemistry, aspects of the deposition process, and the adhesional behavior are described in detail. Another focus of the work is a new method to crystallize calcium phosphate coatings on polymeric substrates, by using an excimer laser.
