Over the past two decades, the number of women entering the labour market has grown sharply in Indonesia. This led to a situation in which many couples experience work-family conflicts. Work-family conflicts can occur in two directions, work-to-family (WFC) and family-to-work (FWC) conflicts. WFC and FWC decrease couples marital satisfaction and their job satisfaction. The negative impact of WFC decreases if couples receive social support from their supervisors, while spouse and extended family support decrease FWC. Most Indonesian men perceive their work role as more important than their family role, while most women perceive their family as most important. We found that both work and family role importance were positively related to job and marital satisfaction. The positive and negative feelings (i.e. work-family conflicts, satisfaction) interrelated between married couples. We found positive relationships between husband’s WFC and wife’s FWC, between husband’s FWC and wife’s WFC, and between husband’s and wife’s marital and job satisfaction.
