We thank Prof. Kawada for the interest in our article, and agree that the exact mechanisms underlying the relationship between renal dysfunction and cognitive impairment or dementia are not fully understood. In our article, we discussed several suggested potential mechanisms. These might work additively, or synergistically, and include shared vascular risk factors or a direct effect of uremic toxins.
