Abstract

Demonstrates a procedure for narrative analysis by reconstructing the messages in 15 US and Dutch situation comedies. The sitcom appears to be rather one-dimensional: it repeatedly stresses the problems of the self in personal relationships. Although the procedure is intensive and asks for analytical competence, narrative analysis seems promising in reconstructing cultural messages.
