Je kunt natuurlijk van alles 'klassiek' noemen, maar dat het artikel 'Disconnexion syndromes in animals and man' van Norman Geschwind een klassieker is, daar zullen slechts weinigen aan twijfelen, hoewel ik me afvraag hoeveel lezers het (helemaal) gelezen hebben. Het woord 'viraal' had nog niet de betekenis die het nu heeft, anders was dat wel van toepassing geweest. Maar in tegenstelling tot hedendaagse virale zaken, domineerde Geschwinds artikel de discussies in de neuropsychologie vele jaren. Zo laten Absher en Benson (1993) zien dat het aantal citaties steeg van ongeveer honderd per jaar eind jaren zestig naar ongeveer 350 per jaar in de periode 1980-1985, waarna dat aantal weer wat daalde.
