The article discusses the Neo-Latin eulogy by the Flemish Jesuit Jacobus Wallius (1599-1690) to the famous Pole Mathias Casimirus Sarbievius (1595-1640). It deals with the context in which the eulogy was written, analyses its contents (including its many references to Classical authors), and makes a detailed comparison between the ode's two versions, from 1632 and 1656, which differ significantly.
