Titel: The dynamics of giftedness in the upper primary grades Auteur: Joyce C.G. Gubbels Engelse samenvatting: Giftedness is often defined as an IQ-score of 130 or higher, that indicates strong analytical abilities. The research by Joyce Gubbels shows that in addition to analytically gifted children, there is a group of creatively gifted children as well as a group of both analytically and creatively gifted children. Moreover, this latter group was found to gain the highest scores on cognitive and socio-emotional measures too. In addition, her studies showed the importance of educational challenge for gifted students. A pull-out program in which gifted primary school children spend one morning a week in secondary school, was not only found to enhance their intellectual abilities, but also prevent them from a loss of motivation. An online enrichment program was found to be beneficial for creatively gifted children only. Creatively gifted children, however, are less likely to be identified for enrichment programs than analytically gifted. In order to recognize creative gifted children and allow them acces to enrichment programs, a broad range of selection criteria should be used. Proefschrift
