The follow-up investigation of patients with prostate cancer is mainly conducted on the basis of complaints, serum prostate-specific antigen and digital rectal examination. Other investigations, such as bone scintigraphy, are only performed on indication. The frequency and duration of the follow-up investigation, as well as the consequences of the findings during this, depend on the stage of the disease, the patient's wishes and the possibilities of additional treatment.
